Colorado Mountain Expeditions was born from the Colorado Trail Foundation’s original guided trekking program.

This program was created to help hikers experience this iconic long-distance trail with expert support. That partnership continues today, and we are proud to remain the official hiking outfitter of The Colorado Trail Foundation.

Working closely with the Foundation, we still operate and guide their trekking program today. CME owners Dan and Emily Weida serve as the Trekking Program Managers, and The Colorado Trail Foundation rents Colorado Mountain Expeditions’ equipment for use on their guided trekking trips. The Foundation also frequently employs CME guides to lead these adventures.

Both The Colorado Trail Foundation and Colorado Mountain Expeditions remain committed to providing high quality adventures on The Colorado Trail.

Whether you join a Colorado Trail Foundation trekking trip or a CME-guided hike on the Colorado Trail, you can expect the same high level of professionalism, support, and backcountry expertise. When you hike with us, you’re part of a long-standing tradition of stewardship, adventure, and exceptional guided service on one of America’s most celebrated long-distance trails.

Experience the Colorado Trail Your Way

The Colorado Trail offers adventures for every type of explorer, from backpackers to mountain bikers. Whether you’re seeking solitude, challenge, or guided support, there’s a way for you to enjoy this iconic 485-mile trail.

Through-Hiking: The Ultimate Adventure

Through-hiking lets you tackle the entire trail in one continuous journey. Backpackers experience the full 485 miles of diverse landscapes, from alpine peaks to lush forests, immersing themselves in the trail’s beauty and challenge.

Segment Hiking: Explore at Your Own Pace

If a full through-hike isn’t your goal, segment hiking allows you to explore individual sections of the trail. This approach offers flexibility, letting you enjoy the scenery and adventure on a schedule that fits your lifestyle.

Mountain Biking and Bikepacking: For Speed and Challenge

The Colorado Trail is a premier destination for mountain biking and multi-day bikepacking. Riders seeking speed, technical terrain, and endurance challenges will find plenty to push their limits and enjoy the thrill of the trail.

Complete the Entire Colorado Trail With Us

Colorado Mountain Expeditions and The Colorado Trail Foundation offer guided trips on the Colorado Trail in what we call “sections.” Each section covers a different portion of the trail, making it easier to experience the Colorado Trail one piece at a time. In total, all 7 sections add up to completing the entire length of the Colorado Trail. Section 1 starts in Denver, and Section 7 concludes at the trail terminus in Durango. Join us for a section—or hike them all—and start your Colorado Trail adventure today.

Trip Schedule at a Glance

Each Colorado Trail section trip is 6 days long. The first day is a meeting and arrival day, where we pick up guests, shuttle everyone to camp, get settled, and go over the plan for the week. Hiking begins the following morning. The next five days are full hiking days on the trail, allowing you to immerse yourself in the Colorado backcountry with all logistics handled. Reserve your spot today and experience the Colorado Trail the easiest and most rewarding way possible.

The Easy Way to Experience the Colorado Trail

Hiking the Colorado Trail is an incredible adventure, but it can be challenging to plan and carry everything you need. With Colorado Mountain Expeditions, we take care of all the logistics so you can focus on the experience. Here's what makes our trips the easiest way to experience the Colorado Trail:

Slackpacking

The perfect way to enjoy a multi-day hiking adventure without carrying a heavy pack. On our CT trips, your gear is transported for you, so you only hike with a light daypack containing water, snacks, and essentials. This allows you to cover more ground, move more freely, and fully enjoy the scenery and experience.

Comfy Camps

Where comfort meets the backcountry. Each camp features a backcountry shower, a large guest tent that serves as a cozy living room for hikers to relax and connect, and a kitchen tent where our guides prepare delicious meals. You’ll enjoy cold drinks, a coffee and tea bar, and stunning views that make every evening memorable.

Our Guides

Our guides bring unmatched knowledge of the backcountry. Whether it’s offering tips on terrain, sharing stories about the landscapes, or ensuring every step is safe and enjoyable, our guides create a seamless and memorable experience for every hiker.

All-Inclusive

Every trip includes meals and snacks, gear transport, professional support, and transportation during the trip. While hikers do need to bring personal gear, the packing list is much shorter than if you were through-hiking or doing the trail on your own. Our all-inclusive approach allows you to focus on the adventure, the scenery, and the backcountry experience.
