A classic Rocky Mountain National Park hiking experience

Experience the best of Rocky Mountain National Park on a fully guided basecamp hiking trip designed for travelers who want incredible mountain scenery without the stress of planning logistics. This four-day adventure is based in Estes Park on the east side of the park and provides direct access to some of Colorado’s most iconic alpine terrain.

Each day, you’ll explore scenic trails to alpine lakes, waterfalls, and sweeping mountain viewpoints, then return to a comfortable, professionally supported camp inside the park. With Colorado Mountain Expeditions handling permits, meals, route planning, and daily logistics, you can focus on hiking, relaxing, and enjoying time in the mountains.

This trip is a great fit for hikers looking for a guided Rocky Mountain National Park hiking trip, a Colorado hiking vacation, or a well-supported introduction to multi-day mountain travel.

Camp inside Rocky Mountain National Park

One of the biggest advantages of this trip is our location. Our basecamp is set up inside Rocky Mountain National Park at Glacier Basin Campground, just minutes from major trailheads on the park’s east side. Staying inside the park allows us to start early, avoid long entrance lines, and spend more time on the trail each day.

Instead of commuting back and forth from town, you’ll return each afternoon to a welcoming camp environment where everything is ready for you. The result is a more relaxed pace and a more immersive national park experience, especially during the busy summer season.

Guests consistently tell us this setup is one of the reasons the trip feels easier, more enjoyable, and more memorable than trying to plan the same experience on their own.

Guided hiking designed for real hikers

Hiking is the heart of this trip, and each day is built around routes that showcase the best scenery on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park. Our guides provide daily briefings, manage pacing, and adjust plans based on weather, trail conditions, and group ability to keep the experience safe and enjoyable.

You can expect a mix of moderate to challenging hikes that may include alpine lakes, waterfalls, scenic ridgelines, and classic Rocky Mountain viewpoints. Some days may offer more ambitious options, while others focus on steady scenic exploration. This flexibility allows guests to find the right level of challenge while still sharing a cohesive group experience.

Detailed hiking options are available on the Schedule and Trip Profile page.

A comfortable, fully supported basecamp

Evenings at camp are a defining part of the experience. Our team creates a well-organized basecamp environment designed to be comfortable, functional, and welcoming after a full day on the trail.

You’ll have a dedicated group gathering space, organized camp layout, and a reliable rhythm to each day. When you return from hiking, dinner is underway, water is ready, and the logistics are already handled. That structure allows you to relax, recover, and enjoy time with the group instead of worrying about camp chores.

This style of basecamp travel delivers the adventure of hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park while removing many of the hassles that come with traditional camping.

Meals that keep you fueled and satisfied

Meals are an important part of every Colorado Mountain Expeditions trip. Our guides prepare fresh, satisfying food designed to support long days on the trail and create a welcoming atmosphere at camp.

Breakfast starts the day with steady energy, lunches are practical and trail-ready, and dinners are warm, filling, and shared together at basecamp. Menus are built to be balanced and reliable, with attention given to dietary needs whenever possible.

Good food in a mountain setting brings people together, and it is often one of the things guests remember most about the trip.

Small groups make a big difference

We intentionally keep group sizes small to create a more personal and enjoyable experience. Smaller groups move more efficiently on the trail, adapt more easily to changing conditions, and allow guides to provide better support to each guest.

This trip works especially well for people who want a guided Rocky Mountain National Park experience without the crowds or rushed pace that can come with larger tours. It is also a strong choice for hikers who want professional guidance while still maintaining a sense of independence and adventure.

What we handle for you

Colorado Mountain Expeditions manages the logistics so you can focus on the experience. From permits and route planning to meals and camp setup, our team takes care of the details that make multi-day hiking trips complicated to organize on your own.

Your guides handle the daily planning, coordinate timing, prepare meals, and maintain the basecamp. Before the trip begins, we also provide preparation support to help you pack, plan travel, and arrive ready to hike.

Reserve your spot

Trips in Rocky Mountain National Park regularly fill well in advance, especially during the summer season. A deposit secures your reservation, and our team will support you through the preparation process from registration through departure.

If you are looking for a well-organized, professionally guided hiking trip in Rocky Mountain National Park, this basecamp adventure offers a reliable and memorable way to experience one of Colorado’s most iconic landscapes.

Yes—very common. Across our hiking, biking, and art trips, a large percentage of our guests sign up solo. These experiences are designed to bring together people who share a passion for the outdoors and adventure, so you’ll be joining a group of like-minded individuals from day one. Our guides foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that makes it easy to connect—whether you’re on the trail, or relaxing back at camp.

We also regularly have couples and small groups of friends join our trips, which adds to the overall dynamic and makes each group unique. No matter how people arrive, everyone quickly blends into one cohesive group. There’s no pressure—just a supportive, social atmosphere where you can engage as much or as little as you’d like.

By the end of the week, it’s common for solo travelers to leave with new friendships and future adventure partners. Many guests find that coming alone actually enhances the experience, giving them the opportunity to fully immerse themselves and meet new people along the way.
