Every day offers new sights, from historic train depots and quirky roadside landmarks to vineyards and river vistas.

Reserve Your Spot Today- Limited to 14 riders.
Riding with a small group of just 14 participants makes this trip a truly personal experience. You’ll have the chance to get to know your fellow riders, share stories along the trail, and enjoy a supportive, friendly atmosphere that’s hard to find in larger rides. Every detail is handled by your guides, giving you more time to relax, connect, and savor the journey.

Why the Katy Trail Is Special

The Katy Trail traces the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad corridor, providing a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and accessible cycling. Its mostly flat, crushed limestone path allows riders to focus on the scenery rather than the effort, making it ideal for all skill levels. Along the trail, you’ll discover historic train depots that have been converted into shaded picnic areas, enjoy breathtaking views of the Missouri River, and ride through scenic vineyards with opportunities for wine tastings in Augusta and Hermann. Along the way, quirky landmarks like BoatHenge and Missouri’s largest burr oak add memorable stops, while charming small towns offer inviting inns, cafés, and local markets to explore.

Every mile tells a story, from the railroad era to today’s vibrant trail communities.

Your Guides

This trip is led by Dan and Emily Weida, owners of Colorado Mountain Expeditions, who grew up in Missouri exploring the Katy Trail on weekends with their families. Dan even completed a multi-day ride as a 10-year-old from Clinton to Columbia with his family and a few friends, giving him a lifelong connection to the trail and a deep understanding of its rhythm and charm.

On this adventure, you’ll have experienced guides riding alongside the group, providing guidance, encouragement, and support throughout each day. A SAG vehicle and support team handle luggage transfers and logistics, allowing you to enjoy the trail without worry. From route navigation to rest stops and meals, your guides ensure every detail is taken care of so you can focus on the ride, scenery, and shared experience of this iconic Missouri trail.

Day 1 is focused on meeting the group, shuttling to St. Charles, and enjoying the welcome dinner and pre-trip briefing.

Weather

During early September in Missouri, the weather is generally favorable for cycling, with warm days and cooler mornings and evenings. Average daytime temperatures along the Katy Trail tend to be in the mid-70s to low-80s °F (about 24–28°C), while nighttime lows often drop into the 50s °F (10–15°C), making mornings and evenings refreshing for early starts and post-ride relaxation.

Precipitation is possible, as September can bring occasional showers or thunderstorms, but most days feature long periods of sunshine and comfortable riding conditions. Humidity can be moderate, so staying hydrated and dressing in breathable layers is recommended.

Because conditions can vary slightly between shaded forested areas and open farmland, riders should be prepared for changes in temperature and sun exposure throughout the day. To maximize comfort and safety, rides will typically start in the morning when temperatures are cooler, allowing most of the day’s riding to be completed before any late-afternoon showers are most likely.

Lodging

Accommodations are included for every night of the trip, with comfortable hotels selected along the route to provide rest and convenience after each day on the trail. The base trip price includes shared double occupancy rooms, allowing you to meet and connect with fellow riders in a friendly, small-group environment.

For riders who prefer more privacy, single rooms are available for an additional $475. Each hotel provides comfortable amenities, including Wi-Fi, breakfast options, and easy access to evening dining in the nearby towns. Your guides and support team ensure luggage is transported each day, so you can enjoy a relaxing evening without worrying about logistics.

E-Bikes

E-bikes are welcome on this trip, making the Katy Trail accessible to a wider range of riders and allowing you to enjoy the scenery with less strain. Riders using e-bikes should be comfortable operating their bike over long distances and managing battery life throughout the day.

Our guides and support team are familiar with e-bike needs and will provide assistance as necessary, including guidance on charging opportunities and safe riding etiquette on the trail. Whether you’re using a traditional bike or an e-bike, you’ll have full SAG and luggage support throughout the week.

Who This Trip is For

This adventure is perfect for cyclists who enjoy multi-day rides, scenic routes, and a fully supported experience. Riders should be comfortable covering 35–50 miles per day on mostly flat to gently rolling terrain along crushed limestone paths. Basic cycling experience and confidence over long distances are all that’s required.

Riders will enjoy fully supported luggage transfers, guided route assistance, river valleys, historic towns, and charming small towns along the way. Daily rides are paced to allow time for sightseeing, photos, winery tastings, and stops at landmarks such as historic train depots, BoatHenge, and Missouri’s largest burr oak. Those concerned about pace or endurance can ride at a comfortable speed knowing SAG support and guidance are available throughout the trip, making this adventure accessible to a wide range of confident riders.

Yes—very common. Across our hiking, biking, and art trips, a large percentage of our guests sign up solo. These experiences are designed to bring together people who share a passion for the outdoors and adventure, so you’ll be joining a group of like-minded individuals from day one. Our guides foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that makes it easy to connect—whether you’re on the trail, or relaxing back at camp.

We also regularly have couples and small groups of friends join our trips, which adds to the overall dynamic and makes each group unique. No matter how people arrive, everyone quickly blends into one cohesive group. There’s no pressure—just a supportive, social atmosphere where you can engage as much or as little as you’d like.

By the end of the week, it’s common for solo travelers to leave with new friendships and future adventure partners. Many guests find that coming alone actually enhances the experience, giving them the opportunity to fully immerse themselves and meet new people along the way.
