A Guided 3 Day Mountain Bike Adventure with Colorado Mountain Expeditions
Fully Supported Bike Slackpacking Trip | Colorado Trail Segments 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6.
Ride the Colorado Trail — Fully Supported
June 24 - 26, 2026
Discover the perfect introduction to multi-day Colorado Trail mountain biking on this three-day guided adventure. Starting just outside Denver, this trip lets riders experience authentic Colorado backcountry without venturing far from the Front Range. You’ll pedal through lush forests, sweeping ridgelines, and iconic trail sections, taking in some of the best scenery Colorado has to offer — all on nearly continuous singletrack that makes every mile thrilling.
This trip is designed for intermediate riders eager to test their skills, but even experienced mountain bikers will find satisfaction in the flowing singletrack, technical climbs, and fun descents. The moderate elevations make tackling long days completely achievable, including the 26.5-mile second day that threads together Segments 2 and 3.
The Trail Experience
Riders will explore Colorado Trail Segments 1, 2, 3, and partial Segments 5 and 6, each offering a unique taste of Colorado’s northern backcountry. Segment 1 begins in the bighorn sheep territory- Waterton canyon. Day 1 starts with an incredibly easy 8 mile gentle climb and fast descents that warm you up for the adventure ahead. Segments 2 and 3 continue through open meadows, pine forests, and ridgelines, delivering a perfect mix of challenge and flow — this is the day where 26.5 miles of rideable singletrack will fly by.
On the final day, riders will tackle the end of Segment 5 and start of Segment 6, riding northbound from Georgia Pass to Rock Creek Trailhead. These sections still deliver panoramic mountain views, winding through alpine forests and ridgelines, and feature nearly continuous singletrack for a satisfying final day on the trail. The downhill on this day will leave a smile on your face from the time you get on the shuttle until long after you're home. We must only ride parts of these segments due to restrictions on bikes in wilderness areas as we have to avoid Lost Creek Wilderness.
Riders can go at their own pace throughout the day. A CME sweep guide rides at the back to assist with navigation, minor mechanical issues, and first aid as needed.
This is a slackpacking adventure designed to let riders fully focus on the trail and the experience, rather than being weighed down by heavy gear. Riders carry only the essentials needed for the day: lunch, snacks, rain gear with riding layers, a personal first aid kit, a small bike repair kit, and water. All overnight gear, including tents, sleeping systems, and personal bags, is transported between camps by Colorado Mountain Expeditions.
Slackpacking allows riders to enjoy light, nimble days on the trail, making it easier to tackle climbs, flow through technical sections, and truly immerse themselves in the scenery. Without the burden of a full pack, riders can move more freely, maintain energy throughout the day, and focus on the joy of riding. At the end of each ride, your gear will be waiting for you at camp, ready for you to relax, set up your tent, and unwind while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow riders.
Camp Comfort and Meals
After each day’s ride, riders arrive at fully supported camps where personal gear has already been delivered. Riders set up their own tents, then settle into camp life. The guest tent serves as a welcoming living room with chairs for all riders, a cooler stocked with drinks like Gatorade, soda, and sparkling water, and a BYOB cooler for beer or wine brought on the first day. A coffee and tea bar is available at breakfast and in the evening, and a variety of card games and small activities provide a fun way to connect with fellow riders.
The kitchen tent is where guides prepare fresh, hearty meals to fuel and refuel riders. Breakfast is a hot continental buffet featuring proteins and carbohydrates, with a packed hot breakfast on Day 1 served in the shuttle to the trailhead. Lunches include made-to-order sandwiches (deli meats and cheeses or peanut butter and jelly), plus fresh fruits, vegetables, and a variety of trail snacks. Dinner is a warm, flavorful meal designed to restore energy and celebrate the day’s ride. Riders with dietary restrictions, including gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian needs, are fully accommodated. All meals are thoughtfully prepared to be both energizing and delicious.
Who This Trip is For
This trip is ideal for riders who want to experience the Colorado Trail without having to travel far from the Denver area. It’s perfect for intermediate mountain bikers looking for manageable but rewarding multi-day rides, with plenty of singletrack, flowing climbs, and scenic descents. Experienced riders will also enjoy the technical sections and backcountry adventure, while slackpacking support ensures everyone can focus on the ride, the scenery, and the fun. Whether you’re coming from out of state or just looking to escape into the mountains for a few days, this trip offers an unforgettable Colorado mountain biking experience.
Weather
This trip takes place in late June, which is typically one of the most pleasant times of year to ride in the northern Colorado mountains. Riders can expect daytime temperatures in the 60s to low 80s (°F) in the lower elevations and slightly cooler temperatures at higher ridgelines, with evenings in camp dropping into the 40s or 50s.
Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. While sunny, warm days are common, riders should be prepared for sudden thunderstorms, wind, and cooler temperatures at higher elevations. For this reason, we plan to start rides early in the morning so riders are off exposed ridgelines before the risk of afternoon storms is highest.
Riders should pack layers for warmth, a waterproof rain jacket, and moisture-wicking clothing, and plan for both sun and potential wet conditions. Hydration is crucial at elevation, and sunscreen, lip balm, and sunglasses are strongly recommended.
Meeting Information
Riders will meet at the Wooly Mammoth Park 'n Ride on Day 1. Bikes and bags will be loaded into the shuttle, and the group will depart once all gear is packed and ready for the ride. Riding will begin shortly after arriving at the trailhead, about a 25 min ride from the meeting location. Riders may either be dropped off or leave a vehicle at Park 'n Ride for the duration of the trip. More detailed information is available under the Meeting Logistics Tab.

Ending the Trip
We plan to finish the ride and return to the Park N Ride between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM on the final day, providing little flexibility for riders. If you're traveling from out of state, we'd advise not planning to travel back until the day after the trip ends.
Meeting Logistics – Flying In
Meeting Information – Flying In
For riders flying into the area for this trip- the nearest airport is Denver International Airport (DEN). The airport is located about 40 miles from the meeting location in Golden, CO, so after landing, riders will need to arrange transportation to the Wooly Mammoth Park N Ride. Options include rental cars, local taxi services, or shuttle companies. Ride-share apps like Uber or Lyft are incredibly reliable in the Denver area and may be your best bet if you are traveling with a bike.
For a smooth start to your trip, we recommend planning your arrival the night before your first day on the trail. This ensures you have plenty of time to reach the meeting location, pick up any rental bikes or gear, and be ready for an early departure with the group. Additional details and directions can be found under the Meeting Logistics tab.
If you are flying in and renting a bike-
Things could get a little tricky. Unfortunatly there isn't any bike rental locations near our meeting location. Your best bet may be to go straight from the airport to your bike rental, then order an Uber XL and communicate with the driver about your needing room for a bike. We'd highly recommend staying at The Origin Hotel - Red Rocks the night before the trip if this is the case. At the end of the trip we're happy to take you and your rental bike back to your rental location.
