What is Slackpacking?

Slackpacking means hiking point-to-point over multiple days while someone else handles the logistics and heavy lifting. Instead of carrying a full overnight backpack, you hike with only the essentials like water, snacks, rain gear, extra layers, and a few personal items. Most days, you’ll hike right into and out of camp, so when you finish your miles for the day, your camp is already set up and waiting for you. Meanwhile, Colorado Mountain Expeditions provides vehicle support and transports your main gear ahead each day, allowing you to focus on the trail, the scenery, and the experience of long-distance hiking without the strain of a heavy pack.

Benefits of Slackpacking

Slackpacking offers the perfect balance between adventure and comfort, making long-distance hiking more enjoyable and accessible. By carrying only a light daypack, you can hike farther with less fatigue, allowing you to fully appreciate the scenery and the experience instead of worrying about heavy gear. Slackpacking also allows Colorado Mountain Expeditions to provide a more luxurious camp experience, including delicous and nutritous meals, hot showers, and even hauling your favorite beverages—things you’d never want to carry in a traditional backpack.

Slackpacking lets you cover more miles each day and fully enjoy the trail, making it the perfect way to experience iconic long-distance routes like the Arizona Highline Trail and the Colorado Trail.
